Born on January 14, 1945 in a home in Saco, Montana, Richard Alonzo Sudduth, Jr. was the first born child of Richard and Marion (Robbins) Sudduth, Sr. He was raised in Hinsdale, Mt and graduated from Hinsdale High School in 1963. On June 18, 1967 he married Mary Sue Knudson of Saco who became his partner in life. Their son, Richard Kenneth Sudduth was born on June 25th, 1971. They lived in the Saco community for over 35 years after traveling to other parts of the United States. Rich was a farm hand for Knudson Brothers in Saco, a mechanic for Farm Equipment in Glasgow, and followed the pipeline in the early 70’s to New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas and Utah.
Mary Sue and Richie accompanied him on these adventures. Settling in Saco, he worked at the compressor station for MDU and WBI until his retirement in 2007. Rich was retired from the Montana Army National Guard after serving 24 years. He was a member of the American Legion, served as a councilman for the city of Saco and served as the interim mayor of Saco. Time spent farming provided Rich with a sense of accomplishment unparalleled to any other job he had. He willingly shared his mechanical ability and knowledge of farming with his grandchildren and enjoyed the company of close friends and family.
Rich is survived by his son, Richard Kenneth Sudduth of Saco, three grandchildren; Anthony Sudduth of Hinsdale, Matthew Sudduth of Glasgow, and Kayla Sudduth of Saco, MT.; three sisters, Marcia (Ray) Covert of San Jose, CA, Laura “Lolly” (Ed) Carr-Schade of Colorado Springs, CO, and Candy (Tom) Dooper, Lusk, WY; mother-in-law, Jane Knudson, Glasgow, MT; two sisters-in-law, Connie (Jim) Schultz, Fort Peck, MT and Laurinda (Oscar) Knudson, Billings, MT. and numerous nieces and nephews.
Rich was preceded in death by his father, Richard Alonzo Sudduth, Sr., his mother, Marion Lucille Sudduth, his father-in-law Kenneth Knudson and his brother-in-law, Kenneth Max Knudson. Mary Sue and Rich left this life as they lived, together on September 29, 2015 in a tragic car accident.
The Sudduth’s family will receive friends on Monday, October 5th, 2015 from 4:00 PM till 6:00 PM at the Bell Mortuary in Glasgow, Montana. Rich and Mary Sue’s services will be Tuesday, October 6th, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the Saco Gymnasium in Saco, Montana. Burial will follow at Saco Cemetery.
