Lloyd Jones, my sister, Evelyn, and I were in the same grades together at Hinsdale High School. I started school in the fall of 1940. Although Lloyd and Evelyn had started school before I did, they repeated a few grades, so we were in the grades through freshman in high school when we moved to Idaho.
One summer when we were in the 34d or 4th grade (with Miss Hagestad – 3d grade, or Miss Westby 4th grade ) Lloyd and I herded sheep on our farm north of Hinsdale. Later on, my dad hired Wensel Kneifel to herd the sheep so we didn’t have to miss any school.
Lloyd was always an encourager and pleasant to be around. Unfortunately our paths crossed very few times after we moved to Idaho in 1949. I have many memories, however, and am thankful for them.

Deepest sympathy are sent with the hope that ,as time goes by memories will help bring comfort. I remember him from when I used to come to Hinsdale with either my mom or my mom and dad. May the memories that mean the most to you live forever in your hearts. What a nice person he was.

I don’t have a lot of memories of interaction with Lloyd, but one has stuck with me. Probably around 1950, and we had moved to the Hinsdale Livestock ranch. I was with Mom (Frances) at the North ranch where she was cooking for the cowboys who were gathering cattle for the annual branding in early June.. The dugout was just that, and had no electricity. Mom was preparing for the evening meal (no lunch as the roundup didn’t stop for lunch). Must have been mid afternoon and Lloyd and another cowboy stopped, hungry. Mom said she had nothing ready but cold steak and leftover pancakes from breakfast. Lloyd quickly made a steak, pancake sandwich, slothered it with jam and left happy. Funny what we remember. Rest in peace Lloyd.
