Walt D. McLean, 69, of Glasgow, Montana passed away at home on October 26, 2024. He was born December 23, 1954 in Riverside, California to John McLean and Virginia Hanson. Walt was the middle child in a family of nine. His father was in the Air force so growing up, the family moved a lot. His mother was diagnosed with MS and became unable to walk, so when his older sister got married Walt opted to quit school and take care of his mother.
Walt joined the Army at the age of 17 and was stationed in Germany. Walt was married twice. He and his first wife, Pam, had daughter, Brandy. Later son, Sam, was born in Glasgow. Though he did not have a major part in their upbringing he did love them and was very proud of both of them.
Walt worked at many different jobs but he liked cooking the most. Walt became a life-time member of the VFW in Glasgow and was very proud of the service it provided and the membership. Of the many stations in life that Walt held, the one he did the best was being a brother and a friend and that covered not only the family , but just about everyone he met. The world will not be the same without him but Walt made it a little better place.
Walt is survived by his daughter, Brandy of Wisconsin; son, Sam of Poplar; sisters, Julia of New York and Donna of Illinois; brothers, Jim of Colorado and Robert of Glasgow; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Agnes, and brothers, David and Mike.
A celebration of his life will be held at Fort Peck VFW Post 3107 at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 31, 2024. Condolences may be left online for the family at bellmortuarymontana.com.
