Wallis Joan Fourstar Blount, “Eagle Feather Woman” “Wave the Feather Woman”, started her Journey on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at the age of 83. She lived a full and beautiful life.
Joan was born on April 14, 1938 to Wallace Fourstar and Evaline Dawson Archdale. She grew up in the Oswego area before going to boarding school in South Dakota. She returned to help care for her siblings and attended school in Frazer; eventually getting her G.E.D. She was employed at the production department at the A&S Industries in Poplar during the late 70’s, and later worked at the Frazer Recreation Hall; but her true calling was raising her family.
Joan met Dennis Blount and they were married September 10, 1955 in Wolf Point. Together they had 3 daughters, Nadine, Sandra, and Denise; later becoming foster parents to many children in need and grandparents to 9. Joan loved her family. She was her girls’ number one fan; supporting them at their many sporting events, school, and church activities. Joan and Dennis were very proud to be involved with many Frazer community events for many years; including the Red Bottom Celebration, the Fourth of July Committee, and Cansuska Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed running the Sunday school program and ladies’ aid. Joan was quite the seamstress and spent much of her time making star quilts, clothing, wall hangings, bingo bags, and everything in between. She always kept her hands busy with various craft projects and her puzzle books. She enjoyed sitting outside, reading her favorite western books and her daily newspapers. She loved to travel and looked forward to her adventures with her sister, Julia; and often reminisced of her many trips “down south”.
We can say many things about Joan, but the most important is, she was very kind hearted. She was always busy and always willing to help; whether it be running bingo fundraisers 3 times a week with Dennis, cooking and baking for ceremonies, feeds and birthdays, making star quilts for giveaways or simply helping with her grandkids. We could always count on her.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Blount; parents, Wallace Fourstar and Evaline Dawson Archdale; brothers, Robert Fourstar, Oliver Archdale, Ivan Archdale, and Donovan Shields; sister, Leta Firemoon; infant brothers and sisters, Milton Fourstar, Angeline Fourstar, Sheldon Archdale, and Jon Archdale; granddaughters, Jennifer Rose Windy Boy and Ruby Jewel White Eagle; nephews, Vincent “Reed” Firemoon, Dawson Firemoon, Thomas Firemoon, and Robert Archdale; niece, Rebecca Archdale; sisters-in-law, Pearl Fourbear, Arlene Standing, Marian Blount, Lucille Blue Earth, and Rita Talks Different; brothers-in-law, George Blount, Jr., Wayne Blount, Myron Blount, and Harold Dean Blount.
Joan will be greatly missed by her daughters, Nadine (Jim) DeCoteau, Sandra (Joe) White Eagle, and Denise Blount Windy Boy Garfield; sister, Julia Farrar; brother, Kenneth Ryan; sisters-in-law, Marietta Fourbear and Thelma Blount; grandchildren, Ellen Enriquez, Megan DeCoteau, Samantha (Frank) Espinoza, Adam DeCoteau, Marcus DeCoteau, Dennis “DJ” (Chantelle) White Eagle, and Katie Garfield; great-grandchildren, Dreona Beston, Diamante “Didi” Enriquez, Dante Enriquez, and Dahlia “Dolly” Enriquez, Evelyn “Shorty” Yellowhammer, Donovan Espinoza, Jenuine Gray Windy Boy, Jazmyn Windy Boy, Joanie Windy Boy, Jaimie Windy Boy, Joseph Windy Boy, Jonathan Windy Boy, John Windy Boy, and Elliana White Eagle. She had many nephews, nieces, and friends. If we failed to mention anyone we apologize, mom loved you all.
We would like to thank the staff at Faith Lutheran Home for the care and friendship shown to our mother during her final years.
