Valerie Lynn Youpee, age 50, went to be with the Lord on August 16, 2019. She was beautiful, kind soul who had numerous friends that took her in as their own. She always greeted everybody with a warm smile.
Valerie was born on October 15, 1968 in Culbertson, Montana. Her parents were Della Long Hair Thomas and Lester Youpee. She attended Culbertson School until junior high and then she transferred to Brockton where she graduated. While in high school, Valerie was an outstanding basketball player and cheerleader. After high School, Valerie went on to play for the A&S Striders and qualified for state.
She worked as a guard and cook for the Fort Peck Jail and Detention Center, a cashier for Walmart, Sidney Sugar Factory, a youth coordinator for the Fort Peck Tribes, and she also volunteered at the Fort Kipp Headstart. Lots of people loved to be around her. She always put everybody’s needs before her own and never said no or turned anybody away.
Valerie is survived by her mother, Della Long Hair Thomas; brother, Leslie Long Hair; Ashten (Blaine) Youpee, Racquel (Daeshanna) Bets His Medicine, Agnes Bets His Medicine, Brennan Bets His Medicine all of Ft. Kipp; grandchildren Kovawn, Mishare, Neyanna and Viserion; grandmother Loretta Bearcub; aunties, Lydia Long Hair, Ceya Long Hair, Jamie Youpee, Sharon Red Thunder, Millie Runs Through, Kate Youpee, and Arletta Black Dog, Shannon Loans Arrow; uncles Sheldon (Ilinda) Youpee, Maynard Black Dog, Brian Black Dog, and Duane Green; cousins Billy Black Dog, Duane (Valerie) Black Dog, Robert Black Dog, Jagel Keeler, Lenny Rattling Thunder, Matthew Rattling Thunder, Terry Rattling Thunder, Francis Rattling Thunder, Harlan Rattling Thunder, Raymond Track, Ira Track, Bobby Black Dog, William black Dog, Bobby Youpee, Jeff Stump, Nathaniel Long Hair, Ornen Black Dog, Marien Runs Through, Allison Keeler, LaDonna Black Dog, LaVonne Black Dog, Alice Long Hair, Lynette Long Hair, Millie Runs Through, Wendy Runs Through and many more, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her father, Lester Youpee; step-father, Melchoir Thomas; Ursula and Johnsen Long Hair, Roselda (Frank) Loans Arrow, Jeanette and Lester Youpee Sr., Nathaniel (Iris) Long Hair, Velma (George) Broken Leg, Corrine Turning Heart, Lawrence (Martha) Black Dog, Fank Loans Arrow, Robert Youpee, Russell Youpee, Natalie Long Hair, Wesley Long Hair, Myree Broken Leg, Ivan Broken Leg, Darla Broken Leg and Rocky Youpee.
A prayer service and wake will be 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at the James Black Dog Center in Fort Kipp. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 22, 2019 at the James Black Dog Center in Fort Kipp with Father Martin Ezeihuaka officiating. Burial will be in the Fort Kipp Cemetery.
