Ronald Lee Gilbertson, 75, of Glasgow, Montana passed away unexpectedly on August 7, 2021.
He was born in Glasgow, Montana on September 30, 1945, to Olaf and Ruth Gilbertson. He was the fourth of six children, including Deanna, Gordon, Leslie, Kristi, and Jeff. He grew up on what locals know as the North Bench.
In Ron’s younger years he could be found working the farm or singing his little sister to sleep.
He was a 1963 graduate of Glasgow High School and served in the National Guard.
Ron worked for the railroad for 41 years. He also farmed, owned and operated RC Trailer Sales, and was a county commissioner.
After he retired, he and his wife were snowbirds to Mesquite, Nevada where they made many good friends. There he spent much of his time entertaining others in their little retirement community, making people laugh and bringing joy to their lives.
One of Ron’s biggest accomplishments was being a loving husband and a generous father, grandpa, and great-grandpa. All his children and grandkids loved being with “Grandpa Four Fingers” as he always made them laugh and feel special.
He loved a good game of cribbage, cooking his famous ribs & kraut, and making family, friends, and even strangers laugh. He was always thinking of the next funny prank he could pull off.
For 75 years Dad was a man of character with character. He will forever be missed.
He is survived by Cary, his wife of 49 years; six children: Rodney (Tammy) Cornwell of Rapid City, South Dakota, Shana (Jim) Myren of Kalispell, Montana, Trina (Larry) Luoma of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Russ Gilbertson of Nashua, Montana, John Gilbertson of Columbia Falls, Montana and Kyla (Bill) Mossman of Post Falls, Idaho; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; siblings Deanna Jones of Glasgow, Montana, Gordon Gilbertson of Roundup, Montana, Kristi Gilbertson-Schulz of Rio Vista, California, and Jeff (Rosario) Gilbertson of Missoula, Montana; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Dear Pops,
I spent 50 years wondering where I got my traits and values from. My parents were incredible and I miss them both dearly. However, our personalities weren’t always the same and there were a lot of moments in life that I felt lost and like something or someone was missing. The moment I had a match on Ancestry and started my journey getting to know you, everything clicked and my questions were answered. You were where I get my sense of humor, love of whisky, conservative values, and even a few little neurotic similarities 😬 . Thank you for welcoming me with love and open arms. Our time together was incredibly too short 😥 💔.
I will cherish every memory we had like the crazy road trip that took us over a really long dusty mountain top, the awesome dad hugs, your kindness, and last but not least always making me laugh. Though losing you is hard, I’m thankful for every moment we had together.
Love you pops (Dad2) ❤️😘

As relative newby to snow birdin in Mesquite, NV. Ron was the first to greet Denise and I. Since that 1st time, Ron and Cary have become great friends. Most every day started with our pups going to the door and announce it was time for their morning visit with Ron and the treat he always had for them. They would walk the park and see to it that all dogs would get that treat. An occasional evening by the fire, a good joke and lots of laughs. So sorry to hear of his passing. Know Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Even though we only met Ron and Cary 2 years ago, we feel as if we’ve known them for years. We were so lucky that the RV Park in Mesquite had a spot available right next to Ron and Cary. Best snowbird neighbors ever! We had such good times on the deck or at our place in a lawn chair. We shared meals and good deals at the grocery store. Never a day went by that we didn’t visit. Our Roxie the Doxie was welcome any time she wanted. If she knew Ron was out she would run over to the back stairs and beg for a treat. She always wanted to go in the house to “snoop” as Ron would put it. Of course the mornings were special for all the puppies in the park. Ron was the treat man and they all knew it! We will miss your teasing and joking for sure. Heaven certainly got a good man. Keep those angels laughing, Ron. Till we meet again.

Ron had a smile that never quit and was a jokester for everyone! To soon gone. So long will he be remembered.
I’m so glad we visited in April.
