Maureen Carr passed away on May 22, 2023 at the age of 80 from complications of COPD. Maureen was born on December 16, 1942 to Paul and Ann Bedrey. She grew up in Queens with her parents, her sister Karen, and brother Paul.
After graduating high school Maureen went on to Grace Downs Air Career school graduating in 1961. She learned all about the travel industry and mastered typing, shorthand, and many other receptionist skills. In 1963, she married the boy next door from St. Martin, Athanase Cagan, who was living and working in the United States. They had two children, Claudine and Eric. After moving to St.Martin, Maureen worked in the family grocery store and took care of her children.
After Maureen and Athanase separated, she and her two children moved back to New York and raised them in Greene close to her parents. This is where she met the love of her life, Bert Carr. She married Bert in 1983 and they built a home together. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, reading, and cooking in her free time.
Always a hard worker, she worked as a secretary for Pageprint for many years and made many friends out of the colleagues she had there.
After Bert passed away in 2007, she made the difficult decision to sell her home and move West closer to her children. She bought a small home in Glasgow, MT, and continued reading- just shy of 700 books! and cooking as her hobbies.
Our mom was strong and resilient despite all the pain from her first marriage and having to rebuild her life from scratch. Near the end, she had tough diagnoses that challenged her quality of life. Despite that, she was a guiding force for her children and grandchildren. Maureen is survived by her siblings, Karen (Bob) and Paul (Betty). Her children Claudine (Ted) and Eric (Kim). Maureen has four grandchildren whom she is immensely proud of Ethan, Colin, Allie, and Drew. Her nephews and nieces Bobby, Scott, Andrea, and Jackie. Peanut, the mini dachshund, loves and will miss his grandma. Over the years, the two spent many a snowy afternoon together side by side in their favorite chair reading or watching tv.
Life is as sweet as you make it. It isn’t about what you have. It’s who you have.
