Marcellena A. Frueh, (nee Wehri) passed away on May 2, 2016, at her home in Glasgow Montana. Cremation has taken place and a private family burial will occur at a later date. Marci will be buried at the Haymarsh Cemetery in North Dakota, alongside her parents, siblings and many friends.
Marci was born to W.F. and Marcellena (Potts) Wehri on October 15, 1927, in Haymarsh (Glen Ullin), North Dakota. Marci was one of 11 children and the youngest of four girls.
Marci attended grade school in the one-room rural school house in Haymarsh. She attended high school at the Sacred Heart Academy in Fargo, North Dakota graduating in 1945. Marci then attended the Presentation School of Nursing in Aberdeen, South Dakota and graduated as a registered nurse in 1952. She received her anesthesia training at St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth, Minnesota, graduating as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist on January 2, 1958.
On August 13, 1970 Marci married Edward A. Frueh and they moved to Glasgow, Montana intending to stay one year.
Marci was hired by the Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital as the Director of Nursing Services. Her first endeavor was getting the hospital accredited. Fortunately, she had just finished helping with an accreditation for a hospital in North Dakota.
The nursing staff and Marci worked tirelessly to accomplish this goal. Not long after the accreditation was awarded, the anesthetist left and the hospital was in need of a new one. Marci had the credentials and the experience and accepted the position. She worked as the sole anesthetist at FMDH for twenty-two years. She was on call 24/7 for these 22 years.
Marci and Ed adopted their six children and for many years kept their home and hearts open as foster parents for children in need of shelter for the night or for months at a time.
Marci is survived by Edward, her husband of 45 years, their six children, Jim Frueh of Glasgow, Bobbi Jean (Michael) Kirby of Hershey, Nebraska, Anthony (Sandra) Frueh of Pueblo, Colorado, Ann (John) Kulczyk of Glasgow, Beth Jeide of Bismarck, North Dakota and Byron (Robyn) Frueh of Stanley, North Dakota, 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Marci is also survived by her brother Cletus Wehri, sister Bernice Wehri, sisters-in-law Eleanor Wehri all of Glen Ullin, North Dakota and Marie Wehri of Miles City, Montana, brother and sister-in-law Ted and Wilhelmina Frueh and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers or visitation, Ed and the family ask that you send a donation to a food bank or mission soup kitchen that feeds the homeless and hungry, especially the children.
