Louis Cassidy Monson passed away on February 3, 2024, at the age of 56 after a short battle with Esophageal cancer. Louis was born February 21, 1967, in Glasgow and was the last child of Paul and Darlene (Sundby) Monson and the last Monson grandchild of Julian and Effie (Halbakken) Monson.
He was baptized and confirmed at the First Lutheran Church of Glasgow and graduated in 1986 from the Glasgow Senior High School.
Shortly after high school, Louie bartended part-time at the Montana Bar but later began his career as a Rural Contract Mail Carrier for the United States Postal Service. He loved his mail job and reliably served his customers from Glasgow to Saint Marie, finishing up in Opheim for over 33 years. One of Louie’s coworkers remarked that Louie was one of the most reliable employees; never missing a day’s work.
Louie was a Minnesota Vikings, Minnesota Twins, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Montana Grizzly fan. He played pool and darts for the Montana Bar team and participated in the Fantasy Football. He loved everything to do with the bar except bartending. Anytime someone didn’t show up for a shift the first words out of Louie’s mouth were “I am a mailman, not a bartender so I am not working”; but of course, he did pitch in when it was absolutely necessary.
After his mom’s passing in 1994 Louie, his brother Lance, his Dad, and all the buddies from Caddy Corner took their annual trip to Vegas. Lots of fun times were had on those trips and not always what happened in Vegas stayed in Vegas. Many stories were told upon their return to the big city of Glasgow.
Later on, after his dad passed, Louie’s vacations changed from the annual Vegas trip to NFL games supporting the Minnesota Vikings and occasionally a Minnesota Timberwolves game. It was always a family affair with Louie, traveling with his sister, brother, nephew, niece, and great-nephew.
Louie is survived by his brother Lance; sister Lana; niece Paula; nephews Ryan and Chase; great-nephew Ryley and beloved cat, Oscar. He is also survived by aunts: Myrna (Smirk), Shirley, Linda, and numerous cousins.
Louie is preceded in death by his parents Paul and Darlene, paternal grandparents Julian and Effie (Halbakken) Monson, maternal grandparents Orvin and Isabelle (Bakkum) Sundby, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
At Louie’s request, no services are planned. Condolences for the family may be left at bellmortuarymontana.com.

Oh, no, Lance – I’m so sorry to hear about Lou. I remember training him when he first started at the post office – he always wanted to do a good job for his customers! He used to crack us all up in the mornings while casing the mail when he’d throw a goofy comment into the conversation with that deadpan delivery of his. I worked with him for nearly 30 years, thought highly of his work ethic, and really liked him. He will be missed.
