Kenneth T. Borseth Obituary
The 1949 blizzard was a series of storms that hit the Great Plains from January to mid-February, causing the worst winter in the region’s history. Along with this storm came the birth of Kenneth Thomas Borseth on January 17, 1949, in Sidney, Montana, to Ole and Jean (Bond) Borseth. Ken passed away on Sunday, October 13, in Billings, Montana, at the age of 75.
He was raised and educated in Williston, North Dakota, and graduated high school from Hillcrest Lutheran Academy in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. As a young man, Ken spent much of his time working on the family farm south of Watford City, North Dakota. The strong work ethic that Ken was well known for started on this farm and continued throughout his entire life.
After graduation, Ken went to Fort Peck, working in construction and as a ranch hand for a short time. While frequenting the Ft. Peck Cafe, he met a waitress named Cecelia Jimison. In 1968, Ken enlisted in the United States Navy, and in the fall of 1969, he married Cecelia. Together, they had one daughter, Tricia Borseth-Mires (Jim). During his time in the Navy, Ken traveled the world but was stationed in Jacksonville, Florida. Ken and his family lived in Florida for a couple of years before moving back to be closer to family.
Ken resided in Glasgow up until his death. He had a work ethic second to none, which he instilled in his daughter and three grandchildren. He was the manager of Markle’s Oil for over 30 years. For the past 20 years, he was employed by the Valley County Road Dept as well as the Glasgow Stockyards. Ken was also a retired volunteer fireman for the town of Glasgow.
He loved spending time with family and friends. His favorite titles were ‘Grandpa Ken’ and ‘Papa Ken’, given by his grandchildren and great-granddaughter. Ken had a passion for horses, which he shared with his grandchildren. While many knew Ken for his “tough” exterior, those close to him experienced his big heart and helpful spirit.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws Roy and Nona Jimison, brother Jim Borseth, and nephew Steven Jimison. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Cecelia; one daughter, Tricia Mires, and Jim (Glendive, MT); three grandchildren, Morgan Schaaf and Jesse (Glendive), Keegan Mires (Watford City, ND), Chloe Mires (Glendive); and one great-granddaughter, Scout Schaaf (Glendive). Siblings: John (Ellen) Borseth, Pete (Kari) Borseth, and Mary (Richard) Stenberg; along with many nieces and nephews, including Sara Jimison who he considered a “fourth grandchild,” and many friends.
In the words of Ken, “Be careful and do your best!”

When I first got to know Borey was at Glasgow Stockyards. He came across tough but as I got to know him I saw a man who had a sense of humor unlike anyone I know and a strong work ethic. He always asked me with a smirk, “How’s life chasing those WILD women?” Borey loved those close to him well and was always up for a good down to earth conversation. I’ll miss ya Ol’ Buddy. I’ll see you on the other side. My thoughts and prayers go to the family at this time.

My deepest sympathies on Ken’s passing. I knew Ken the best when we were growing up in Watford City, our families spent a lot of time together and I remember doing many fun things together as kids. We still got together often after they moved to Williston but not as often. Then lost contact after we became adults and went our separate ways. However did see each other at different family events and always enjoyed our visits.
I will not be making it to the funeral as have other commitments in Duluth that same day, but will be there in spirit.
God bless Ken’s memory – rest in peace.

This man was pretty awesome I had the pleasure of working with him at the stock yards him and I loaded a couple trucks. He was surprised I knew what I was doing. He really didn’t believe that I used to haul cattle. He apologized to me for his foul words he used no need I cuss like a sailor too, he laughed and smiled said we were gonna get along just fine. Small memory of him gonna miss his smile.

I first met Ken at the Oil Co. We moved from Glasgow years ago but would come back frequently. I’d run into Ken from time to time and he would always say hi and visit like we were best buddies. I’ll always remember his smile and friendship. RIP Ken.

Trish , we have such gr8 memories of meeting Ken at the barbaque when we were over in 2017. Big strong man , powerful laugh confirmed my image of a true American cowboy, and even had the hat to prove it. It was our honour to have met him. May he get his eternal reward in Heaven Rip Ken . God be with you and all the family . We will be watching the ceremony here in Ireland.
