John Barry Beard, 77, passed away from cancer and went into the presence of his Lord Jesus Christ on Saturday, April 8, 2017, at Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital in Glasgow, MT.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Wednesday, April 12, at Bell Mortuary in Glasgow. Services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, April 13, with Pastor Joseph Kite from Newark, Delaware officiating also at the Bell Mortuary. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery in Glasgow.
He was born and raised in Chambersburg, PA, where he married his high school sweetheart, Joann, in 1958. He worked for the J.J. Newberry Co. as Assistant Manager in Chambersburg, PA, Kennett Square, PA, and Front Royal, VA. He then went in construction, working on the Dulles International Airport in Chantilly, VA. By this time, he had two children … a son, Shawn, and a daughter, Sherri Lynn.
In the early 60’s, he moved his family to Delaware where he worked for the DuPont Company in Deepwater, NJ. A second son, Scott, now joined the family. Barry worked for DuPont for 17 years until the Lord called him into the ministry. He pastored for 12 years in Delaware until, in 1989, the Lord specifically called him to Glasgow, MT, where he established Joy Fellowship Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and an infant son, Shane.
He is survived by his very loving and devoted wife of 59 years, Joann; children, Shawn Beard (Linda) of Glasgow; Sherri Lynn Homme (George) of Raleigh, NC; and Scott Beard (Stephanie) of Middletown, DE; grandchildren, Shannon Stirling of Littleton, CO; Shane Beard and Kyle Beard of Wilmington, DE.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Joy Fellowship Benevolence Fund, P.O. Box 1184, Glasgow, MT 59230, where they will be distributed to various mission outreaches.
Bell Mortuary is handling the arrangements.

I remember walking down to Maria’s Hoagie Shop after school (King Street Elm) and seeing Barry’ motorcycle parked in the street. I knew I was going to get a great hoagie. Your wedding reception was the greatest because it was catered by Maria’s. I remember Barry hunting with Grandpap Gutshall ,Uncle Ralph, my Dad and I. Cold, wet, and foggy, Of course Shawn hunted with us later on. May all the tears of sadness turn to tears of joy when you remember your times together. God Bless. Ken Gutshall and our family.

My heart goes to Joann, Shawn, Sherri Lynn and the grandchildren..Barry will be greatly missed..He was such a bright light to all of us..From the 1st time I met him as a young man w/his dark, thick wavy hair, who walked everywhere, (no car) then with a dark leather, motorcycle jacket riding a Harley Davidson..This guy was courting my sister, Joann !! Wow, I couldn’t believe it !! Dad was unsure at first but Barry made his way into all of our hearts & remained there..
Barry, Roy and I hold many memories of you in our heart..We know you are at peace and in the presence of your Savior, Jesus Christ..See you on the other side..Lovingly, Roy, Rita and Families

Some, of most wonderful memories were in The Beard home. Sherri and I, would spend many nights laughing and dreaming about what the future would hold. Pastor Bear, was loving and caring along with his precious wife Joann. I, thank the Lord for the blessing they were to me and many other young people as we were trying to find our path with The Lord. We, keep your family in our prayers. Cares all past home at last heaven to rejoice. With much Love Cindy Episcopo
