Imojean (Fuhrman) Helgeson was born September 12, 1928, one of five daughters born to Kon C. and Emma (Miller) Fuhrman. Jean passed away peacefully of natural causes at Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital on September 29, 2017 at the age of 89. She was born in the small community called Baylor, located south of Opheim, MT.
After spending her younger years at their farm, Jean went to school in Glasgow at the South Side School and graduated from Glasgow High School in 1947. She then attended Beauty School in Chinook, MT becoming a hairdresser, which fulfilled her childhood dream. Along with doing hair she was employed at Buttrey’s Women’s Clothing Store and Friedl’s.
On March 5, 1950 Jean married James Helgeson of Nashua. They resided at the farm of her father before moving to Havre and later moved back to Nashua. During their Nashua time, she worked at the Farmers Union Oil Company of Nashua and J.C. Penny in Glasgow as their bookkeeper. She was very adamant that every account and ledger must balance to the penny at all times. After Jim’s death, she moved to Glasgow where she was employed by United Insurance and Realty. In her later years she moved to Nemont Manor.
Jean was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Glasgow. Many hours of her life were dedicated to her favorite past time of sewing. As in her bookkeeping skills, her stiches in sewing had to be perfect. She took great pride in her sewing. Jean also loved to go to bingo anytime she could. Rounding out her hobbies were baking cookies, bowling, embroidery and you could always find a word search book close to her chair.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister Helen Rennick and numerous relatives.
Jean is survived by her sisters, Hilda Rosencrans and Adeline Mitchell of Glasgow, MT and Theresa Sather of Bozeman, MT; son, Donald of Big Sandy, MT; daughter, Connie (Ben) Danelson of Scobey, MT; (step)grandchildren, Casey (Katrina) Danelson and children Mesa and Colby and LeeAnn Danelson and daughter Shay of Scobey, MT; along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews who graced her life.
Jean’s funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 5, 2017 at 1:00 PM at the First Lutheran Church in Glasgow, MT. Burial will follow at the Highland Cemetery in Glasgow, MT.
Barbara Dickenson says
To the family of Jeannie:
I want to express my sorrow upon learning of the passing of Jeannie. She grew into a cherished friend and i will miss her so much. I am so glad i kept in touch a few times each year since I moved. My heart is heavy for all the sorrow you are each feeling at this time. Jeannie wasn’t one to dwell on her illnesses so she didn’t tell me much about how she was feeling although II am now comforted to know that now she is not in pain anymore. She dearly loved all her family even though she did have her moments. She made my stay at Nemont Manor a pleasure, especially at BINGO and KENO. I will miss her greatly and my sympathy goes out to her family during this time of sorrow. God bless you Jeannie.
