Evelyn Wisecarver Scott, 81, of Bedford, VA, passed quietly April 30, 2016 while on vacation in her beloved Montana.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, May 18th at 1:00 p.m. at the Town Hall in Saint Marie. Donations in her name may be made to some of her favorite charities: Crazy Horse Memorial in South Dakota, www.crazyhorsememorial.org; St. Labre Indian School, 1000 Tongue River Road, Ashland, Montana 59003; St. Joseph’s Indian School, 1301 N. Main Street, Chamberlain, South Dakota 57325-0330; Habitat for Humanity, or just plant a tree in her memory.
Evelyn was born January 22, 1935 in Penniman, VA to Carlisle and Mina (Elliott) Wiesecarver. She graduated from Rustburg High School, earned her Bachelors and Masters from Lynchburg College and received her Doctorate from the University of Virginia in1986.
She was married to Neil Scott also of Bedford, VA, for 25 years.
She taught in Bedford County Schools from the 1950’s to the 1970’s. Moved to Montana in 1978 and taught on the Fort Peck Indian Reservation for approximately 20 years. After retiring she split her time between Montana and Virginia.
Evelyn was a Reiki Master and a teacher, she was a long standing member of the Lions Club. She greatly enjoyed playing Mexican Train (dominoes) with family and friends in both states.
Evelyn is survived by her daughters, Shelly (John) Lee Woodridge and Sharon (James) Preston Jones; son, Shearl (Joyce) Laird Scott; grandchildren, Clifton B. ( Kelly) Woodridge, Gabrielle P. (Brandon) Rich, Cari W. (Heath) Moore, Neil Reynolds, and James E. Jones III; great-grandchild, Rosemary N. Preston; sister, Ann W. Wisecarver; brother, Charlie (Jeanette) Wisecarver; numerous nieces, nephews family and friends.
Proceeding her in death are her parents, three brothers and a sister.
