Evelyn Dora Mix, 89, formally from Hinsdale Montana, died peacefully surrounded by love, Saturday, October 21, 2023, where she was residing in Glasgow, Montana.
Evelyn was born January 17, 1934, in Homestead, Montana to Emil and Alma (Frederick) Dalby. She was the second of eight children: John, Evelyn, Cora, Vernon, Melvin, Alvin, Cecil, and Nora.
Evelyn attended Glasgow Public Schools until quitting in the 8th grade to help care for her siblings and sick mother, Alma after she was diagnosed with “milk leg”.
Around the age of 15, Evelyn started working at Allen’s cafe in Glasgow along with babysitting for close family and friends. When she was 17, she started working at the City Cafe in Glasgow. In September of 1957, she received a phone call from a gentleman by the name of Adrian, he said he worked with her dad, Emil, on the railroad and wanted to ask her on a date. Later it came to light that he would go in and watch her do dishes until he built the courage to ask her out. December 16th, 1957 behind the Fish and Game Building, at 12:15 am, Adrian proposed to Evelyn “Marry me now or forget it!” They wasted no time and were married on February 9, 1958! She then moved in with Adrian on the farm they made their home and spent 50 years of marriage together, until his passing on February 11, 2008. In their 50 years, they were blessed with five children: Adrian Earl Jr, Darwin William, Joyce Marie, Mabel Alma, and Margaret Lily.
After the passing of her husband, Evelyn resided on the family farm while being cared for by her daughter Joyce and then her granddaughter Adrianna until June of 2018. She had to have three stents put in, it was then the family decided it was time to move her in with her daughter Margaret in Poplar, Montana. In November of 2022, her health slowly started to decline and she moved in with her daughter Mabel in Glasgow to be closer and have more help from family, where she resided until she passed.
Evelyn enjoyed watching Days Of Our Lives, Family Feud, Another World, Wheel of Fortune, and Jeopardy. She also loved word searches and playing “Go-Fish”. She loved going anywhere that involved her grandkids, especially school sports, and attending their school concerts. She enjoyed road trips with her children and grandchildren. Anywhere Joyce went, she would tag along. Her nicknames from her grandkids were either “Tag-Along” “G-Ma” and “Crazy Lady”.
Evelyn was a real homemaker, she hung her clothes (even in the winter) and enjoyed canning vegetables from her garden. She always made jam and was known for all of her homemade goodies, there was nothing she couldn’t cook or bake.

I remember going out to the farm and staying with Joyce and Evelyn always made feel at home. She was loved by so many, she was always there for everyone. She was in some ways a second mom to me growing up as I spent so much time on the farm. RIP Evelyn Say hi to my mom

During the years I held church at Hinsdale Methodist, Evelyn and Adrian were two of the nicest people that ever came. They never said much, they always had a smile and they would be there the next Sunday. My thoughts and prayers are with you folks the loss of your mother grandmother and great grandmother. She was a special lady.
