On March 12, 1948, Dorothy married Robert Lawrence Callahan. They lived in Minot and Williston, North Dakota. In1960 they moved to Glasgow, Montana. Dorothy worked for many years at the Smith Clinic in Glasgow. She especially enjoyed working with children.
After retiring, Dorothy enjoyed traveling with Bob, playing golf, and spending time with her family and friends. Dorothy enjoyed crossword puzzles, watching golf, listening to music, and was an expert knitter. She made each of her grandchildren a Christmas ornament every year. She loved to bake cookies for the grandchildren and always had their favorites on hand when they came for a visit.
Dorothy moved to Dickinson, North Dakota in 2014, to be closer to family. In 2018 she entered St. Benedict’s Health Center where she made many new
friends, and the staff became part of her beloved family. She loved sharing a smile, a joke or a hug whenever someone entered her room. Dorothy’s family truly appreciates the love that was generously given to her.
While Dorothy did not favor one religious group over another, she was a Christian and loved the Lord. She especially loved Bernie’s weekly Bible studies and church services in the chapel at St. Ben’s.
She is survived by her two sons: Larry and his wife, Nancy, of Dickinson, North Dakota; and Bruce and his wife, Kathy, of Langley, Washington. Lorraine Hughes says
Dorothy was a patient of mine at Dr. Reyling’s office for many years. I always loved her positive outlook and her special brand of humor. She was a woman who was easy to love.
Dirk Monson says
In the late 70s or early 80s when I was receiving allergy shots, Dorothy gave me a knitted mailbox Christmas ornament with my initials on it. It had a pack of Life Savers inside. I still hang the ornament on the tree every year and repeat the story to my family. It will always be one of my favorites, and a reminder of the kindness and comfort that Dorothy provided me as child with acute asthma.
