Daryl Wayne Toews was born to Harold and Lillian Toews on May 24, 1949, in Glasgow, Montana. He passed away at age 74 on September 30, 2023.
Daryl grew up with his parents and three siblings on their family farm in Lustre, Montana. His passions for his life were Jesus and serving as Christ did. He accepted Jesus as his personal savior at an early age, and he was a member of the Lustre Mennonite Brethren Church his entire life. He graduated from Lustre Christian High School (LCHS) and then attended Tabor College and Montana State. He married his wife Jean (Schmidt) Toews on November 27, 1969. Early in their marriage, they served with Cru (Campus Crusade for Christ). This was a life-changing time of learning about the Spirit-filled life and working with youth. His desire was for everyone to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
They returned to Lustre where he served his community in many ways including: LCHS board, LCHS Dorm Parents, Lustre Grade School board, Lustre MB Church Council, Sunday School teacher, and Central District MB Conference boards. Serving in these positions was his lifelong ministry and passion as well as raising his three daughters. He was a realtor for 40 years along with working in farming personally and with Zerbe Farms.
God called him to public service as a Montana State Senator for eight years. He was proud of sponsoring SB 220 and SB 302 (Dry Prairie Rural Water) for this area that is still under construction. Presently he was serving on the Valley View Nursing Home Board and as a coordinator for the International Students at LCHS for the last 17 years.
He is survived by his wife Jean; daughters: Laurie (Jon) Klippenes, Lisa (Curt) Neufeld, and Luanne (Marshall) Mullet; grandchildren: Molly Klippenes, Mariah Klippenes, Megan Klippenes, Samantha Neufeld, Jake Neufeld, Piper Neufeld, Sophia Mullet, and Oliver Mullet; brothers, Les Toews and Norm Toews and sister, Donna King. He was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Lillian.
Family will receive friends Thursday, October 5, 2023 from 4 – 6:00 p.m. at Bell Mortuary. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 6, 2023 at the Lustre Mennonite Brethren Church. Burial will follow. Memorial’s can be made in Daryl’s name to Lustre Christian High School.

It is so sudden, so shocked! Condolences, Jean and the extended family!
Daryl was not only a father, a grandfather at home and a teacher of students, he was also a big bother, friend, father, and grandfather of the Lustre Community and the extended Lustre family around the globe. With love and contributions, Daryl and the lovely people in Lustre make Lustre be the best community in the world, not one of the best, simply the best. My family and I will go back to Lustre to see the lovely people and the great community. My best wishes to Jean, Lisa and the extended family!

Daryl left a huge impact on my life. Having served together for almost 22 years in ministry I came to hear his heart for the Church and for the Lost. He had practical wisdom and a desire to help. He showed determination and commitment to anything he put his hand and mind to. He was a great conversationalist and one of the few friends I have left who are readers and informed on the issues affecting the church and plaguing our society. I will miss your sleeping on the ground or in the cab of your pic-up at the men’s campout and will miss having you at my side through all the church meetings and elections. You were one of my best friends. Enjoy Heaven. We will see you soon!

What a wonderful man of God! Laurie, I am so encouraged how your dad loved people and shared Christ with them. What a legacy he has left. Your family is a reflection of God using your dad to further His kingdom. I remember your sisters from Northwestern and visiting for basketball games we played together. May God strengthen you as you miss your dad here on earth.❤️
