Our beloved Father, Grandfather, and Brother, Clarence George, age 82, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in Glasgow, MT on March 3rd, 2018. He always had a great sense of humor and had more to add to every story.
Clarence was born in Mondovi, Wisconsin on June 7th, 1935 to Matt and Lillian George. He was raised in Mondovi and spent many of his summers working on Uncle Christ and Aunt Agnes George’s farm in Arcadia, WI. He became very close to both of them.
He met the love of his life, Marlene Hanson in Gilmanton, WI and they moved to Glasgow, MT and married. They were married for 65 years and had 6 children; Dave, Joanne, Linda, Dan, Mike, and Lana.
They moved to Montana to join Marlene’s relatives who were helping to build the Farmers Union Elevator where he started working. He then worked at the Fort Peck dam as a foreman for a few years. Clarence was a self-taught mechanic and could fix anything. Anyone that knew him, appreciated that he would jump right in to help them.
He worked for Earl’s Body Shop and had a great friendship with the Hallock family. While there he worked as a mechanic/salesman. He retired from there after 14 years and then went to work for the Cenex station as the assistant-manager for 7 years.
He then went to work for the Glasgow School District as the supervisor/mechanic for the bus barn for 10 years and then drove bus for another 8 years. He truly loved hauling all the sports teams to and from Glasgow, especially the wrestlers.
Clarence started leasing land and haying with the help of his sons, Dan and Mike each summer. He then purchased the Milk River Farm in 1980, which was his pride and joy. He was always out there after work and weekends farming and raising pigs, sheep, peacocks, llamas, cows, and chickens. After retiring he spent many hours out there trying to keep the equipment running to cut that hay. He and Marlene always had a great garden, taking pride in the vegetables they grew. Dave and Shelly purchased the farm in 2013 and they still enjoyed going out to garden and caring for the animals.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Matt and Lilian George; his brothers, Wayne Schafer and Larry George; and his sister, Phyllis Burt.
He is survived by his six children, Dave (Shelly) George of Glasgow, MT, Joanne (Roger) Snedigar of Kalispell, MT, Linda (Greg) Moreno of Gig Harbor, WA, Dan (Christine) George of Bixby, OK, Mike (Sherry) George of Fairfield, MT, and Lana (Gordon) Moberly of Kalispell, MT; his grandchildren Tyler (Kim) George of Sheridan, WY, Ryan (Erin) George of Joliet, MT, Chris (Melissa) George of Missoula, MT, Michael Snedigar of Kalispell, MT, Lena (Josh) Stewart of Kalispell, MT, Alisha (Tony) Kazmierczak of Kalispell, Nina (Tim) Vianno of Kalispell, MT, Justin (Kailey) Moreno of Gig Harbor, WA, Alisha (Alex) Criss of New Jersey, Vicky (Jake) George, Matt (Courtney) George, Kalynn Maag of Great Falls, MT and James Palmer of Billings, MT; two brothers Norman (Doris) George of Billings, MT and William (Christine)George of Kingman, AZ; as well as a brother and sister in law Alger and Sandy Hanson.
