Charles Thomas Hopstad passed away on September 14th, 2024 after a short battle with cancer at the age of 75. He was born in Glasgow, Montana on December 3, 1948 to Henry “Hank” and Gwendolyn Hopstad. He was raised in Glasgow with his five brothers and two sisters.
Charlie left Glasgow at young age to travel the United States. Sometimes by foot, thumb, or freight train-from coast to coast. Charlie picked up odd jobs including picking oranges in Florida from working in a spaghetti house in Pennsylvania.
In 1967 he married Cynthia Martell and had two children Travis and Donde. They made their life in Louisiana where Charlie worked as an offshore diver sandblasting rigs for Valdez Oil Co. It was here that he made many lifelong friends, memories and experiences.
In 1976 he moved his family back to Glasgow and started his career with the Burlington Northern Railroad.
He later met and married Roberta Degele. They were blessed with three more children. Sheena, Shawn and Chaz.
Charlie was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle and friend. Charlie was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren and spent many loving and memorable hours with them all, from camping, preaching, teaching and of course sitting on Grandpa’s lap with something that involved sugar!
Charlie studied God’s word passionately and diligently. He passed his knowledge down to his children, and all those that were willing to listen.
Charlie is survived by his wife Berta, his 5 children Travis (Teddi) Hopstad, Donde Fraser (Cory Hallock), Sheena Hopstad, Shawn Hopstad (Jessie Sonsteng), Chaz (Taylor) Hopstad. His grandchildren Alesia & Reannah Hopstad, Ecko & Ashur Fraser, Bella, Ava, Charlee, and Dylan Lund, Silas Hopstad, and Cruz & Cali Hopstad. His siblings Gwen “Sis” Anderson, Floyd (Alice) Hopstad, Alan Hopstad, and Mary Hopstad. His sisters-in-law Dolly Hopstad, and Rhonda (Dan) Bilbruck. His brother-in-law Rock (Jeanne) Degele and mother-in-law Irene Degele. Along with many special nieces and nephews.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents; his granddaughter Madison Faith Chatten, his brothers Henry Jr “Hop”, Donald, and Lloyd. His father-in-law Tony Degele, two nephews and lifelong friend Jim Lambert.

Janis Rorvik says
I remember the handsome and spirited family of a sweet second cousin of ours, Henry (Sr) Hopstad. Charlie enjoyed some of the headlines. I was happy to hear of his Bible teaching and his eventful life. We did not know them well as relatives but cared about them from afar. Janis Rorvik on behalf of myself and Greg and Pam Rorvik (Peter Hopstad’s grandchildren)
