Chad J. Smith, 46, of Glasgow, Montana passed at his home March 27, 2018.
Chad was born July 17, 1971 in Kellogg, Idaho to Pete Smith and Cherlyen McLaurin. Chad attended school in Nashua, Fort Peck, and Glasgow; ending back in Nashua for his high school years. He left school before graduating to move to Idaho and stay with his father.
He had a seamless rain gutter business in Spokane with his brother, Dwayne for several years. He left Spokane and took up trucking out of Great Falls and was able to see much of the United States. After ten years of traveling he decided to be with his family in Glasgow. He worked at the Oasis as a bartender, he worked on vehicles and then for the Valley Transit.
He loved bike racing, his boat, walleye fishing, snowmobiling and working on his and others trucks. He loved working wood. He loved his garden, watching it grow and harvesting it and went as far as to learn canning. Being self-taught, there wasn’t anything he couldn’t do. He totally enjoyed hanging out with Levi and James in anything he did. His smile could light up a room.
Chad is preceded in death by a brother, Todd Smith; uncles, Gary Schroeder and Terry Metvedt; aunt, Carol DuBeau; grandmother, Ovidia Metvedt; and numerous great-aunts and uncles.
He is survived by his mother, Cherylen McLaurin of Glasgow, Montana; father, Peter Smith of Rathdrum, Idaho; brothers, Dwayne (Tami) Smith, Levi McLaurin, and James McLaurin; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be 1:00 p.m., Thursday, April 5, 2018 at Bell Mortuary, with Pastor Bonnie Novak officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Nashua Cemetery. Condolences can be left at bellmortuarymontana.com.

Words are inadequate to express the loss of Chad. We were saddened by his departure to Montana as he was missed by family and friends in Idaho. Chad always had a sincere and caring heart that endeared him to those who were fortunate enough to have spent time with him. We will miss you here on earth but know that your soul is home and we shall see you again! John & Lynette

Chad was as sincere a person as can be, a friend that would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. He gave me as much of his heart as could and loved me and my daughter’s as long as he could. It pains me to know how much he suffered with his own demons . I know that he is in a much better place now and that gives me comfort, knowing that he is not suffering any longer. I have thought of him often in the years that have passed since our time together ended. Condolences to his mom , whom he loved very much , Cherlyn and to his little brothers, James and Levi…and all of the family. RIP CHAD xox ~Jennifer

The death of a loved one is a painful experience. At times like this I find comfort in God’s Word. I hope you can also. 1 Peter 5:7 tells us that you can throw your anxieties on Him because He cares for you. May this thought give you peace. Please accept my condolences at this most distressing time.
