Brett was born in Roosevelt, Utah and grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada. He graduated from the Las Vegas Academy High School where he excelled in the trumpet. His talent led him to be the lead trumpet player in the jazz band and he also played several times on the Las Vegas strip while still in high school. After graduating from the University of South Dakota at Vermillion, he taught at Gayville, SD School and several other schools before settling in Glasgow Montana and teaching at the Nashua school district. He had what is called perfect pitch which is a wonderful benefit to a musician. He also performed standup comedy and loved to make others laugh.
Brett was preceded in death by his mother, Carolyn Jean Baker (Carrie). His father lives in Johnson City, Texas, his brother Marty in Winner, South Dakota, sister Sue Baker Shirey in Coronado, California, brother David in Austin, Texas, brother Jeff in Stockholm, Sweden.
He loved his students and coworkers in Nashua and will be missed by all who knew his big grin and beautiful music.
A memorial service will be held 4:00 p.m. Saturday, March 24, 2018 at Bell Mortuary in Glasgow, Montana with Pastor Mike Hammerly officiating.

Mr.Baker was an amazing man… I was one of his choir and band students for 2 years at Trenton High school. His amazing additive toward everything made each day one to remember. Even now, 2 years after being in his class, all the wonderful things he taught me still remain… and forever will. He was an a amazing teacher, but a better friend. Rest in peace, you are an angel at rest.

Mr. Baker was a good man, good teacher and most of all he was a friend to all of his students. Baker was the person who got me interested in choir and band. Baker was always looking to make someone laugh or smile. he was the highlight of everyone’s day. I had baker for three years in Trenton high school. This world is less full with the absence of his soul. Rest in Peace Brett Baker.

I was in Roosevelt, Utah the day Brett was born in June 1983. I had never seen happier parents than Dad and Carrie that day. So proud! My memories of Brett were of a happy, precocious and very smart kid. He excelled at music and making people laugh, something the world always needs more of. I was devastated to learn of Brett’s passing. Rest in peace.

As a colleague in Nashua, I knew Brett as an intelligent, highly literate man with a great talent and a deep sense of humor. He made the world a better place. I wish I had gotten to know him better.
